samantha chanse is a comic, writer & performer who moved to SF in 2001 and has been bitching about the weather ever since. as a standup comic, she's performed in and around the bay area at cool venues like 50 mason, the purple onion, kimball's east, punchline comedy club (SF), locus arts, and other lovely comedy sites. In the last few years she's also written and performed plays & theater pieces most regularly at Bindlestiff Studio. Her first play, "what good intentions," was produced in 1999 at Rites and Reason Theater in Providence, RI; more recently, her work has included a 2005 production of her full-length play Sleeper (a chronicle of the return of the remarkable), with Asian American Theater Company and Bindlestiff Studio; co-writing & co-producing Pipe Dreams and Paper Trails at Bindlestiff; and having a staged reading of a one-act, "subtext," at Calaveras Repertory Theatre. She is in her 2nd year of being a member of the Playground writer's pool, was a member playwright of Asian American Theater Company's Incubator program, and had the good fortune to be a student of Jeannie Barroga, Philip Gotanda, and Dijana Milosevic. In 2006, she was awarded an invidual artist commission from the San Francisco Arts Commission to produce a solo theater piece for fall 2007. A native new yorker with a knack for public humiliation, she is also the artistic director of sf-based arts nonprofit Kearny Street Workshop and co-director of also sf-based arts nonprofit Locus Arts, and she makes music with the band formerly known as bantercut strategy.
